If you live in the Midwest, you’re probably looking outside and wondering if you’ve stepped into a time warp back to February because it’s snowing there. In New York City, we’re pretty cliched in terms of seasons. It’s April; so, you guessed it, it’s raining so hard, it looks like God has just watched the episode in Game of Thrones, when Ned Stark gets decapitated by that turd, Joffrey Baratheon. I feel you, God.

Since it’s the end and we’ve had time to reflect, what is your list of favorite Twilight movies from most to least and Twilight books from most to least? I’d love to read your thoughts.

Eclipse- Every single aspect of the book was crucial to the climax, from Taha Aki to Rosalie’s back story. I loved how so many things were happening behind the scenes that the reader had to piece together. Loved how Edward began to unravel and become overprotective. Plus, this had two of the best scenes in the series: tent scene and leg hitch scene.
New Moon- The breakup shocked the heck out of me. Didn’t see that coming. But Bella’s journey to Volterra to save Edward was the most breathtaking sequence of the entire series. It made me fall in love with these characters. I read Eclipse and BD voraciously after that sequence. Just phenomenal.
Breaking Dawn- This was a huge let down but I loved the romance of the first 100 pages and the scenes in Isle Esme/ the deterioration of Bella’s body during her pregnancy were so angsty. Hated the change in POV and the change back. The last 1/3 of the book was the epitome of anticlimax, although I loved the end so so much. The last page was perfection.
Twilight- Bella annoyed me. Edward was a fascinating creature, though, from the first page to the last. The meadow scene in the book was unforgettable. Loved the description of their touches. Wish that was captured in the movies somehow.
The Fame Industrial Complex: Aaliyah’s Potential to Fail
Watching this video this morning made me think of all the young R&B singers who succeeded her and failed to have a sustainable career. Ciara, Ashanti, Tweet is something we do on twitter, not a successful R&B singer. All three were about as talented as Rihanna (maybe even more so) and yet none have cracked the Billboard Hot 100 in over 5 years. And it’s not for lack of trying, at least in Ciara’s case. She’s released new music as late as last Fall. None of these singers have been in the tabloids, either, which is why I wondered about Aaliyah. Watching Obama’s State of the Union was both inspirational and frustrating. Watching Rubio’s response was both pleasing and upsetting. At least the “State of the Union is strong.”

To regain a quality audience that appreciates quality programming, we can’t just rely on money-hungry, myopic investments that only allow you to consider next quarter’s profit margin. But the challenge for BET is that when white people own you, your latitude for creating positive black programming is severely diminished, since the white executive in the suburbs could care less if the network he runs is teaching black boys to murder one another in the street. This, my friends, is why we must have more black-owned, conscientious media, for the only way to true freedom is to learn how to control our own public imagery.

What Watkins asks of Debra Lee is what many corporations face these days, no matter the race. Movie studios will make the umpteenth sequel, leaving thoughtful dramas to indies or not made at all. This is because they don’t turn a profit. CNN and the New York Times are having a hard time staying alive because they don’t generate revenue the way other “news channels” do. It’s everywhere in today’s media. It’s in every corporation and it’s scary.

Argo – “Chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis-the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.” Google Movies
My take: The truth is, I have no desire to see this. It looks like a great movie, I’m just not a huge fan of Ben Affleck. Ok, I’m lying, I’m not a fan at all. Sorry, Ben.

My take: This looks like my kind of movie. Funny, root for the underdog, & all in the name of supporting education!

- My Mindset: I was kind of tired, long day. Went to a kid’s birthday party earlier in the day, you know how that is, exhausting! But I heard about this movie and I really wanted to see it, so rented it and here we are.

Summary:Modern day high schooler’s, living in an 80’s/90’s world of fashion, living and thinking of their future, present, and possibly past.
“Meat” TIME: I watched this movie twice in one week, I HAD to. How many times do you hear that? It is a very fast paced movie, main storyline is kinda slow at first but it grows on you. It has all these 80’s, some 90’s references, time travel, and murder. I found it to be thoughtfully laid out and witty, but not overly so, that your attitude is, “Yeah, I got it the first time!” Acting was very good, which let’s face it, surprised me. Live and learn. Very much not a typical high school mushy movie, fun but has just the right amount of sweetness.

I am a hardcore action fan but it has to be said: It sucked. It tried to play the first movies unique edge from a different angle and failed. For some reason, it just “wasn’t,” in all categories.

Not bad. Lol. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, just doesn’t disappoint. I left the theatre satisfied and thinking, “Well, that storyline definitely went full circle.” Then I had to think, we’re talking about timeloops and then you don’t know what to think! Lol
